A veritable bakery institution, Fortuna has a large assortment that ranges from cinnamon buns, red velvet cake to cream puffs and pasteis de nata. Compared to other items, the cannoli are simply not worth it: the taste and texture of the shells were just right, but the ricotta cream was too runny - and I didn't exactly appreciate having them tossed together like I'd bought a 2/$1 deal. :/ - Mimi's Cake Tour

Just want to give my greatest gratitude to the Fortuna bakery on Hastings. My daughter had asked for a rainbow unicorn cake or cupcakes for her 5th birthday. We are on a super tights budget right now. I went to Fortuna and the cake was absolutely out of my budget. But when I mentioned that and asked for cupcakes instead, the lady gave me the most beautiful cupcakes and with so much love, care and amazing price. Thank you so much for this beautiful gift

This is a great bakery stocking lots of sweet treats and bread loaves. I tried a blueberry scone and almond birdnest cookie. The scone was light in texture but rich in flavour and the cookie had a delicious melty texture. Neither was overly sweet and both tasted fresh even though I didn't eat them the day of. The person working was really nice and seemed eager to help.

Today, I went into this bakery to buy some baked goods, pecorino and ‘lady fingers’ to make tiramisu. However, got home and found Mold in my package of sealed ‘lady fingers’. I’m sure mistakes happens. I just want folks to look out for this if they recently bought this item. It’s easy to miss and you don’t want to get sick from mold. Couldn’t find my receipt, so I didn’t return to exchange at the store.

Love their Portuguese buns. Crispy on the outside and super soft on the inside. Can keep for longer in the freezer. Tried their Ciabatta buns & spicy chicken rolls - always fresh. Nice & friendly staff. Wished they were open till a little more later. But good things don't come easily. Highly recommend.

If I could give a dozen stars I would. I needed a cake for a last minute birthday party. I live in Oliver, BC and needed it for a friend in their area. They pulled it off! Not only were they SUPER kind on the phone but they stayed open past closing time because the person picking up the cake thought they closed at 5 instead of 4. This bakery has won my respect and I will forever order all cakes through them! All of my long distance cake bombings will go through them! The cake was also HUGE! It would have fed twice as many people as were there. For $58 I was in awe! BEST PLACE EVER!

Corn bread is delicious and so are the Portuguese buns. Unfortunately, the custard tarts are not made fresh everyday and they sell them now from frozen.

Not too sweet overall but they like to put small, way too sweet parts in their pastries. The pink puff has an outer pink coating which is way too sweet. The custard filled cone is too sweet, had they not covered it with loads of powdered sugar it would have been perfect. Also I wish they had used diplomat cream instead of pure custard.

Love this bakery... it has some very yummy treats. I haven't tried everything here but i bought their cheesecake couple of times and it tastes like heaven. Just make sure you have debit card or cash with you since they do not accept credit card. The staff are also very nice and welcoming every time I visit the store.

They made a large beautiful birthday cake for my wife's party and everyone couldn't stop raving about it. Definitely the go to place for all bakery and deli products in Metro Vancouver. I recommend the Chocolate Tiger Cake (sold by the slice). Bring it home and: 1. Place the cake piece in a small deep bowl or container. 2. Pour a 1/2 cup of milk (or your favorite milk substitute) over the slice. 3. Cover and place in fridge until you are ready to eat it!!! Moisture delicious cake...Ohhhhhh....so moist!!! ????????????

I was having a craving for something sweet so tried this bakery because they were open Sunday. The goodies all looked delicious, so it took me a while to decide what I wanted. I had the cream-filled éclair with chocolate on top and it was well worth the walk and the price. I was not happy to see that none of the staff were wearing masks. I won’t be back. I'll find a bakery that keeps me and my food safe.

The one and only location in North Burnaby for true, perfect Portuguese buns. The selection of breads are varied and delicious as are the sweet pastries, cookies and cakes. They also have a small deli section that has just the right meats and cheeses to make it a one stop shop. There are also fresh roasted whole chickens available periodically for that quick lunch/dinner when you're in a pinch. Highly recommended!!

Loan's cakes at Fortuna Bakery are always amazing. The taste is incredible--light, fluffy, not too sweet, just the perfect amount of sweet. I have ordered my daughter's third and fourth birthday cakes from Fortuna and I am always awestruck when the cakes are revealed to me at pick-up. I start with offering some ideas about how the cakes could look, or give them general themes and colours, and then Loan pours her artistic magical skills into a creation I could only dream of. We love this bakery!

The best Portuguese Buns, you can sometimes get them right out of the oven and they are still warm. A decent deli with good reasonably priced selection of meats and cheeses. They also do a great roasted chicken too.

I went in with my children. Quickly we grabbed the number and waited til the staffs finished with customers . When I thought they will call out the next number. The staff grabbed the man and woman who just walked into the door. We ended up waiting for 20 mins. To say this is a hidden gem would not give justice to the many years that Fortuna has been a part of this community. Not only are they the best Portuguese buns in town but these Fortuna Buns are made without preservatives like the old school way! Great cakes and good deli selection. I have been purchasing my cakes at FORTUNA BAKERY for years and the other day they pulled through again- a strawberry shortcake for 60 people and it was AMAZING as always!! They are also now my regular sandwich stop and they all make me an awesome sandwich. Marcus is a nice young lad working behind the counter as are all of the counter staff. Bakery was clean and staff were friendly. I found it pretty cool that this place also has a deli with Italian goods. Things such as meats, dried pasta, pasta sauce, biscuits and even espresso. Super friendly, all their baking we've tried so far is delicious, seems to be a family-run business. Everything is done in-house. Beautiful custom cakes! Same-day freshly made black forest cakes are very good, even better the next day. Sometimes they sell individual cake slices - very generous portions, very economically priced.

Great customer service and really good prices! We ordered a cake in the morning for the afternoon. Not only was it down in a timely manner but they made it extra nice because it was for a wedding anniversary. There was beautiful calligraphy and fresh flowers added on. Not to mention, it was the best Black Forest I had ever tasted. It was so fresh and full flavour. Will keep coming back for their amazing service and yummy pastries.
